A total of six weightlifting events at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games will feature historic clashes between South Korea and North Korea. North Korea, once a weightlifting powerhouse that threatened China, will return to the international stage for the first time in four years at the Hangzhou Asian Games. North Korea’s last international competition was the 2019 World Championships in Pattaya .No names familiar to South Korean weightlifting fans, such as Lim Jung Shim and Uhm Yun Chol, are on the list of 14 athletes competing at the Asian Games. However, Lim’s younger sister, Lim Eun-sim, is competing in the women’s 64-kilogram category and will be looking for her second straight Asian Games title .North Korean athletes who have never competed internationally also view South Korean weightlifting as a “red flag. On the first day of weightlifting competition at the Hangzhou Asian Games (Oct. 30), South Korea’s Yoo Won-ju (Busan City Sports Federation) and North Korea’s Kang Hyong-yong and Ri Su-yeon will compete in the women’s 55 kg category. On Oct. 1, South Korea’s Bae Moon-soo (Gyeongbuk Development Corporation) and Lee Sang-yeon (Suwon City Hall) will compete against Ri Won-ju in the men’s 67kg category, while Han Jian (Daejeon Sports Federation) will face Lim Eun-sim in the 64kg category on Oct. 2.Park Joo-hyo (Goyang City Hall) will face North Korea’s Oh Geum-taek and Park Jung-ju in the men’s 73 kg on October 3.On Oct. 5, gold medalist Kim Soo-hyun (Busan City Sports Association) will face Chung Chun-hee and Sung Kuk-hyang of North Korea in the women’s 76 kg category, while Won Jong-beom (Gangwon Provincial Office) will battle Roh Kwang-yeol for a medal in the men’s 96 kg category on the same day .The most notable North Korean weightlifter competing at the Games is Lim Eun-sim.Lim won gold in the 69-kilogram category at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang .Her older sister, already a North Korean weightlifting hero, won the women’s 75-kilogram gold medal at the same time. Lim Eun-sim, who also finished second in the 64-kilogram category at the 2019 World Championships in Pattaya, will be looking to win her first international title in four years .A total of 14 gold medals are up for grabs in weightlifting at the Hangzhou Asian Games in seven men’s categories (61kg, 67kg, 73kg, 81kg, 96kg, 109kg, and 109+kg) and seven women’s categories (49kg, 55kg, 59kg, 64kg, 76kg, 87kg, and 87+kg).South Korea will be represented by 14 athletes .After two consecutive no-gold medals at the 2014 Incheon and 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, South Korea will be hoping for more than one gold in Hangzhou. South Korean weightlifting has not produced an Asian Games champion since Jang Jang-ran, Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, won the women’s lightest weight category in 2010, according to a recent visit to Hangzhou .This year, “Jang Jang-ran Kids” Kim Soo-hyun will try to win gold .Kim finished fourth in back-to-back Games in Incheon in 2014 and Jakarta-Palembang in 2018.However, she is one of Asia’s best in the women’s 76kg category, having won the Jinju Asian Weightlifting Championships in May this year. Fellow Asian Games “sweetheart” karate kumite men’s 75-kilogram representative Pie Jae-yoon will also compete on Oct. 5, alongside Kim Soo-hyun.Kim sees this “wonderful coincidence” as a good sign The post ‘Rose of Sharon’ Park Hye-jung (Goyang City Hall) also emerged as a strong gold medal contender. World record holder and Tokyo Olympic champion Li Wenyuan (CHN) in the women’s 87 kg and above category has withdrawn from the Asian Games due to an elbow injury .Park won the World Weightlifting Championships on Sept. 17 with a total of 289 kg, including 124 kg in the lift and 165 kg in the snatch .At the time, Lee Won-won was no longer standing on the platform after repeatedly failing the first and second lifts of 130 kilograms, and she decided not to compete at the Hangzhou Asian Games .Park will have a good fight for gold with “senior” Son Young-hee (Busan City Sports Association). On the men’s side, Jin Yun-sung (Goyang City Hall) and Jang Yeon-hak (Asan City Hall) at 109 kilograms and Won Jong-beom (Gangwon Province) at 바카라사이트 96 kilograms are medal favorites.
