Stuttgart loses to Leipzig 1-5 as “Jung Woo-young starts second game”
South Korean forward Chung Woo-young played more than 90 minutes, but it wasn’t enough to prevent his club Stuttgart from falling to a crushing defeat.
Stuttgart suffered a heavy 1-5 away loss to RB Leipzig in the second round of the 2023-2024 German Professional Soccer Bundesliga on Saturday (Sept. 26) at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig, Germany.
Jung Woo-young, who started as a second striker supporting Serge Girassi up front, played 91 minutes before being replaced by Jamie Levelling in second-half stoppage time.
Like in the first leg, where he played full time, he kept the game virtually until the end, but failed to register an offensive point.
Soccer stats site Fúscore.com gave him a rating of 5.9, the lowest of any forward, for failing to produce any shots on target or key passes (passes that lead to scoring chances).
After taking the lead in the 35th minute through Girasci, Stuttgart collapsed in the second half, conceding five goals.
Six minutes into the second half, the goalkeeper cleared a ball that had been turned back by the Stuttgart defense, only to find itself in the path of Benjamin Henriks, who pressed all game.
After the ‘lucky equalizer’, Leipzig pulled a goal back 12 minutes later when Dani Olmo scored with a left-footed turn in the box, before Roy Offenda headed home a 22nd-minute winner.
Kevin Campbell made it 4-1 in the 29th minute when his mid-range shot deflected off a defender and into the back of the net, before Xavi Simmons completed the rout two minutes later.
After a 5-0 home win over Bochum in the first leg, Stuttgart’s spirits were dampened after just one game.
Leipzig, 먹튀검증 who finished third behind Bayern Munich and Dortmund last season, erased an opening day defeat (2-3) to Leverkusen and picked up their first win of the season.
