Tottenham manager Enzi Postecoglou, 59, could be sacked if the club fails to qualify for European competition this season, according to reports.
“It’s not out of the question that Postecoglou could be sacked if Tottenham fail to qualify for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) or Europa League (UEL),” said Paul Robinson, who played for Spurs from 2004 to 2008, according to Football Insider.
“If Spurs fail to qualify for the UCL or UEL at the end of the season, there will be a lot of criticism of the manager,” Robinson said. ”The team needs to show improvement, but right now they are losing easily. The defensive issues stand out, and Postecoglou is sticking to tactics that don’t suit some of his players.”
Postecoglou took over at Spurs in August of last year with no experience at the big club level. He won the trust of the club’s hierarchy with his attacking soccer philosophy. Last season, Tottenham finished fifth in the English Premier League (EPL) with a tactic that lifted the defense.
However, their early season results have been lackluster. With five wins, one draw, and five losses in 11 league games, they sit in 10th place out of 20 teams. This is Postecoglou’s second season in charge, but he hasn’t seen the growth he expected. While his attacking tactics have been effective at times, his defense has been a constant source of criticism.
Recently, there have also been rumors of a conflict between the manager and the players.
Football Insider reported on June 16 that 토토사이트 “Postecoglou is at odds with at least four players”. Rodrigo Bentancur, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, and Guglielmo Vicario are the players in question.
According to the report, the coach’s direct communication style is at the root of the problem. His tone is perceived as hostile by the players, causing emotional friction. The combination of poor performances and internal conflicts has made the team’s atmosphere even more toxic.
“Spurs are not learning from their mistakes,” Robinson said. “If they don’t achieve their goals at the end of the season, Postecoglou will be under pressure. So far, so good, but if they crash out of the cups next February or miss out on European qualification, he could be sacked before the end of the season.”
Tottenham will next face Manchester City on April 24th. They have two problems to deal with: poor results and internal conflict.
It will be interesting to see if Postecoglou can redeem himself with a win against City.
